Accidentally Dead

The newest book by the FABULOUS Dakota Cassidy will hit the stores on July 1st. However, dear, dear, has already shipped mine and it ought to arrive Monday or Tuesday, at the latest. YAY!!!

*does happy book dance*

I so totally cannot WAIT to read Nina's story!

~Your Accidentally Crazy Lady

Bedlam Bath and Beyond ~ JD Warren

I have to admit, I bought this book solely on the basis of its name. Happily, I wasn’t disappointed in the least!

After being kidnapped and held hostage in a construct created by fallen angels of a sort, Samantha Dorringer manages to break free and return to her normal life. Three years later. In the search to discover what had happened to her, she and the man who helped save her go on a mission to save an innocent girl.

This book made me laugh out loud and gasp in surprise. Cannot wait for the sequel – Crate and Peril!

Undead and Unworthy

I have loved the Queen Betsy books from the very first paragraph all those years ago. And once again, MaryJanice Davidson proves to us that YES Betsy can still get herself in trouble while always looking the Queen.

In this newest installment, we see Betsy be not only her usual oblivious self, but we also see her really grow into her role as Queen of the Vampires. Also, it leaves the ending rather open, since the author tells you up front that the next three books will be a trilogy of sorts. Should be interesting. All in all, it was a really good book and well worth the read!

The Record Industry Has Lost Its Mind

Okay, first go read this blog:

Now, are you as outraged as I am? I mean REALLY people! I can understand why the record companies are angry and looking for new ways to broaden their horizons, so to speak, but this is a bit much. Piracy is out of control these days but this has nothing to do with piracy. Back in the day (like I'm sooooo old), the ONLY way to find out about new music was via the radio. And then you got MTV as well, but I digress. And how do you think your songs get to #1 in the first place? It's the deejays and the listeners pushing their favorites. Trust me, there are artists I LOVE dearly and RARELY hear on the local FM station while others that I CAN'T STAND get more airtime than a 747. Do you honestly think they'll continue to play your song as often as they can if you're going to charge them for it? Probably not. And a note to the record industry? I once listened to a jock play Rammstein's Du Hast THREE times in a ROW just because he couldn't get enough of it. Doubt THAT will happen again. And it's such a shame too.

And then, comparing AM/FM stations to cable and satellite? It's ridiculous. Why? Because, last I checked I PAY for my CABLE and my XM RADIO (which I could not live without btw… THEY play the music I like… but again, I digress… we'll leave my rant against my local country stations for a much later date). So, if they're getting PAID to play music then okay, let them pay royalties. But, if you're playing the music for free? Not a chance. And I'm not buying that radio is making SO MUCH money off of playing the music for free because they are in turn GENERATING income for the record labels.

Anyway, I can see both sides of the argument, however I think the record industry is about to shoot itself in the foot. CD's are already way too expensive, without any relief in sight. If it weren't for Best Buy and release week sales, I don't think I'd ever buy a CD. Digital downloads are nice, but I like having IT ALL. I like supporting my artists, but enough is enough, don't you think?

Comments, arguments, and rotten tomatoes welcome (because the gods only know, I'm not always right)…

Song of the Day Take 2

I'm sure that the lyrics of this song make why I chose it obvious. But, I wanted to give you a bit of insight into this choice anyway.

My best friend and I have known each other for over twenty years. Yeah, I know, right? And while we grew apart for many years, we're finally starting to grow back together and that, I am very happy for. The very first time I ever heard this Tim McGraw song, I thought of her. Matter of fact, it spurred me to contact her, to reach out and pull her back. It was the least I could do. After all, she pulled me off the ledge and kept me from falling into the abyss on entirely too many occasions. She's been inspiration, a shoulder when I needed it, and laugh when I didn't have one. She's held me together when I was falling apart, and allowed me to fall to pieces when I tried to remain whole. Thank you.

And, I have faith that the escapades of Ali & Red will live on long after we've given in. J My Old Friend, this song IS for you…

My Old Friend

My old friend, I recall
The times we had hanging on my wall
I wouldn't trade them for gold
Cause they laugh and they cry me
Somehow sanctify me
They're woven in the stories I have told
And tell again

My old friend, I apologize
For the years that have passed
Since the last time you and I
Dusted off those memories
But the running and the races
The people and the places
There's always somewhere else I had to be
Time gets slim, my old friend

Don't know why, don't know why
Don't know why, don't know why

My old friend, this song's for you
Cause a few simple verses
Was the least that I could do
To tell the world that you were here
Cause the love and the laughter
Will live on long after
All of the sadness and the tears
We'll meet again, my old friend

Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, goodbye

My old friend, my old friend
Goodbye, goodbye

Song of the Day Take 1

I actually have two for you today, because I heard two great songs this morning and just can't decide between them. The first is, for anyone who really knows me, self-explanatory. The second, to come in a separate post, will need a bit of explanation. J

No Fear Sleeping...

Or something like that. While out at the mall Saturday, we ventured into the No Fear store. My older girl, Princess, found bedding of all things. And ya know what? She just HAD to have it...

I really like the colors, despite not being a real big fan of pink. But the black really accents it nicely. Not to mention the pink patter has little black skulls hidden all throughout it.

So, last night, I decked both beds out in their new clothes. This is the bottom bunk. Had I tried to take a picture of the top bunk... Well, all you would have gotten was a picture of the ceiling because I would have been flat on my back looking up, after having fallen off the edge of the bed.

Coffee with Chewie

So, every morning I travel to the same place for my coffee fix before heading off to work. I've been going here for several years now and love both the employees and the location of the store. During the warm months, I have a companion. His name is Chewie. Cute, huh?

His Mama and I sit and chat and talk about our animals. It's really a nice way to start my morning. Back when I was occasionally taking Princess to school, I'd take her to get a chocolate milk to make up for having to go to Safe Key. She and Chewie became fast friends.

Now that it's summertime again, Chewie has started coming to meet me at CBTL. Yesterday, I got to meet a new friend, Baxter.

How cute is he? I'm telling you, I'm beginning to think that I have more furry friends than human friends. But, is that really such a bad thing? I think not. Animals never betray you, nor do they hurt your feelings or make you feel useless, worthless or insignificant.

I love animals and just wish I could figure out a way to bring my hamsters with me every morning.

This really speaks to me in a very good way. Makes me think of Ali's past and her rough present. I can see this simple graphic spurring a very intense look into Ali's life. Let's just hope that I can type again soon because this bandage on my finger is driving me nuts. Not to mention it's causing an awful lot of typos... LOL

I Wish Right?

Dear Amy,Here is your horoscope for Friday, June 20:

Get the various elements of your life back in balance, maybe overemphasizing something like romance or learning that has been suffering somewhat lately. Things should feel normal by the end of the day.

I swear, sometimes these horoscope writers are hiding in my pocket or something. Scary how accurate they can be sometimes.

What has been suffering lately? Not romance, my husband is a psychopath when it comes to that stuff, stalking me and stuff. Not learning either since I get daily e-mails that are always *coughs* educational if nothing else... What has really been suffering has been ME-TIME. Which really means my writing has been suffering because that's usually how I spend my ME-TIME. Although, Ali's blog has been getting a little attention again finally. So, all is not lost.

Just hear me now stars above - I'm holding you to that last line!

So Tired of this CRAP!

Anyway, so we’ve been trying to get a permit for the medical gas at this animal hospital we’re working on. Since it’s in the County and not the City, it’s a different process. In the City, it’s all through your building permit although it is inspected by the fire department. In the County, however, the general contractor has to get a permit through the fire department, which we, as the sub, use.

The Annoying Man, the one that likes to drive me crazy, has asked me about this, and how we do this like fifty times in the last several days. So, when Thé came in to ask me the same dumb question this morning, I jokingly replied (since I was really sick of having to repeat myself and obviously no one here is communicating), “Well, as I’ve told Mr. Annoying fifty times already…” and he cut me off with, “Tell me fifty-one.” Okay, I thought he was joking back, like he generally would, so I say, “Okay, but since it’s the first time you’ve asked, it’s okay.” I didn’t get any farther before he goes off on me. “So, tell it fifty-one or fifty-two, it doesn’t really matter.” I bit my tongue and TRIED to explain to him the procedure but he’s too busy lecturing me to even LISTEN. He’s going on about how we ALL have to repeat ourselves and crap but not giving me a CHANCE to give him the information he’s looking for. And he’s pissing me off.

I don’t know what I’ve done but lately he’s had NO sense of humor. And no matter what, I’m always in the wrong. I’m tired of this. And yanno, I have ceased to care whether he’s busy or not. Or stressed. Why? Because when I was having a serious breakdown and really needed help, all I got from him was a lecture about how bad my attitude was. I was on the verge of suicide and all he could tell me was ‘We all have bad days.’ Whatever. Thank the gods I have a family that loves me because HE wasn't any help.

Finally, I say, “I’m sorry, Thé, I shouldn’t have said anything.” Trying to shut him up, ya know? And he has the freaking NERVE to say, “You’re right, you shouldn’t have.”

EXCUSE ME? I was trying to be lighthearted about the whole stupid issue and YOU get all nasty with me. I give up. I’m not sure how much more of his unstable attitude I can take. One minute, I can joke with him and then, without warning, I can say hello and get a lecture. I know what stress is and how it affects people but I can’t take this. It’s my nature to be silly and to joke. How can I repress that?

Guess I’m going to have to learn to try or I’m either going to quit or get fired before too long.

Fearless Fourteen

I love the Stephanie Plum books but OMG… I was shocked. Neither Stephanie nor Lula even came CLOSE to a Tasty Kake. Not once in the whole book. LMAO

However, the book was really good. Better than the last couple anyway. Not to say that they were bad, but they just hadn't been up to par with the others. Fearless Fourteen, however, is definitely worth the read!

Tomorrow’s Dinner

Tonight is tacos, how exciting is that? LOL Anyway, none of us here are a fan of avocados, so I won't be making the salsa, but otherwise, it sounds YUMMY!

Grilled Margarita Chicken

½ cup tequila

½ cup orange juice

¼ cup fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional

4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves, trimmed of fat

1 avocado, peeled, pitted, and coarsely chopped

1 medium tomato, chopped

1 scallion, minced

1 small jalapeño pepper, ribbed, seeded, and minced

In a shallow glass dish or bowl, combine tequila, orange juice, ¼ cup lime juice and pepper flakes, if using. Add the chicken, cover and marinate overnight, turning once or twice.

In a small glass bowl, combine the avocado, tomato, scallion, jalapeno pepper, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Lightly coat grill with grilling spray and heat to high. Remove the chicken from the marinade. Grill, brushing frequently with the marinate, for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through. Discard any remaining marinade.

Serve each portion topped with 2 tablespoons of the avocado salsa.

And just for Mama…

Citrus Tequila Cocktail

Recipe courtesy Dave Lieberman

3 to 4 ounces white or gold good-quality tequila

1 orange, juiced

1 lemon, juiced

2 limes, juiced

2 teaspoons superfine sugar

10 mint leaves, washed, dried, and roughly torn, plus 2 mint sprigs,

for garnish

Ice cubes

Add the tequila, citrus juices, and sugar to a cocktail shaker and shake well to combine. Add mint leaves and fill the shaker with ice. Shake until frothy. Strain into 2 cocktail glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish each with a sprig of fresh mint and serve immediately.

So, tell me how freaky this is.

Our receptionist is out this week so I’m covering my spot and hers. So, I’ve been going back and forth between my desk and hers. Well, yesterday morning, I started out on my computer printing invoices and things before I went out to her desk and finished it all up.

I left my desk about 9:30 yesterday morning. At 3:30 yesterday afternoon, I went back to my desk and my computer wouldn’t come out of sleep mode. AAAAAAH! So, I turn it off and try and restart it. No go. I get the Dell splash screen and it won’t go any farther. Double AAAAAAH!

I get to work this morning, and it’s still stuck. So, reluctantly, I call Dell Tech Support and get a very helpful lady who solves the issue in less than 10 minutes. What we wound up doing is shutting it down, unplugging it and holding the power button in for ten seconds. Obviously, it won’t start up that way, but she says it’ll discharge any stored power. I plugged it back in and viola! We have power. LOL Did a system restore and was good to go.

Now, what’s so freaky? Here’s today’s horoscope:

You won't relish the tough conversation you have today, but you'll love the outcome.

Weird, huh? Especially since I was dreading calling tech support. LOL

Morbid Monday

Aren't you just SO GLAD we're friends? LOL

I picked up a book called The Pocket Book of Death on the off chance it might be interesting. Well, you know me, I was enthralled. It's filled with myths, facts, legends, funny epitaphs, and anything else you can picture being in this book. It was a lot of fun and educational too!

And, on that note, today would have been the birthday of the man who instilled a love of learning in me - my father. :)

Enter the Dreamzone

I swear to all that's holy… I never ever remembered any of my dreams until this last year or so. And just my luck they're getting bizarre again.

The other night I dreamt that my best friend, Shana, had gotten a (brand) new car. Okay. Good for her (she needs it). But what the heck? Then, last night, I dreamt that Blake took me bowling and then cleaned my kitchen with maple syrup 409. Why can't I ever have a naughty dream involving the man? Why does it have to always be bowling, or dinner with bunny ears? Huh? Why? LOL

I swear, I sold all the crack and stopped smoking it!

Today's Question

Just how many carrots CAN one Syrian hamster stuff into his pouches? Just to be fair, I have to say that this picture from ICHC spurred the question.

Mind you, I have a rather LARGE hamster and I know he can generally fit a whole baby carrot into his mouth, unlike the poor hammie above. So, when the girls got him out this morning, I thought I'd see.

Hey Mama! Got any more of those orange things?

And now he's mad because Mama took the bag of carrots away...

I swear, I don't know about this animal sometimes.

$18 and a Trip to Starbucks

Eighteen dollars is what it cost me to mail out seven books and one DVD yesterday. Even. Sounds like a lot, but when you consider I'll be getting seven books and one DVD back in return, well, kinda makes it sound cheap, doesn't it? Either way, I've learned my lesson – only post a FEW books at a time to and not nineteen. LOL

Anyway, since Zan the Man cooked (ha) dinner last night, I didn't have anything to bring with me today (and reheated tri-tip is so not my thing). So, I packed a decent lunch of healthy snacks (granola bars, apricots, yogurt, etc) and hit Starbucks for a coffee and a treat (lemon raspberry bar – yum!). While waiting on my drink, the young man serving me commented on my Red's Original Chocolate House t-shirt I was wearing – gotta love M&M World. I started talking to him and commented that I have a Star Wars one as well where Red is dressed as a storm trooper. He then tells me I just have to wear it the next time I come in. Um, okay. So, either I was being flirted with (and oblivious ol' me wouldn't have a clue) or he was making fun of me.

I'm gonna go with the latter.

~Your Caffeinated Crazy Lady

Can I help it if I'm a nutcase? LOL

Here's to hoping this works…

Rio Grande Rub Steaks

This was dinner last night. Zan bought a tri-tip and grilled iton his new grill. Instead of the salad, we added broccoli and mashed potatoes to the list. Amazing though, he was crowing about how good his dinner was when all he did was cook the steak. I made the mashed potatoes, the corn bread, the broccoli… LOL Men. J Got to say, however, he did do a good job on his part – the meat was tender and moist and yum-o!

Rio Grande Rub Steaks

4 (8 to 10-ounce, 1-inch thick) sirloin strip steaks
1 1/2 tablespoons (a palmful) ground Ancho chiles or dark chili powder
1 1/2 tablespoons (a palmful) ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 large red onion, cut into 4 thick slices
Extra-virgin olive or vegetable oil, to coat
Salt and pepper

Serving suggestions:
Cracked Cornbread and Cheese Squares
Mexican Salad

Let steaks rest from refrigerator for a few minutes to take the chill off.

Preheat grill pan or indoor electric grill to high heat. Combine spice rub ingredients: ground Ancho chile, cumin, coriander, and cayenne. Rub spice blend into steaks.

Coat sliced red onion with a drizzle of oil. Season with salt and pepper.

Grill steaks and onion slices 5 minutes on each side. Remove from heat. Let meat stand 5 minutes for juices to redistribute. Season steaks with salt. Top with separated rings of red grilled onions. Serve with hot Cracked Cornbread and Cheese Squares and Mexican Salad.

Cracked Corn and Cheese Squares:
1 (8 1/2-ounce) package corn muffin mix, mixed to package directions
Softened butter, to grease baking dish
1/3 pound Monterey Jack or pepper Jack, cut into 1/4-inch dice
1/2 cup frozen corn kernels
1 scallions, thinly sliced

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish with butter. Stir cheese, corn, and scallions into packaged mixed corn muffin batter.

Pour batter into baking dish and bake at 400 degrees F until golden, 15 to 18 minutes.

Yield: 4 + servings

Mexican Salad:
2 ripe avocados
3 vine-ripe tomatoes
1/2 sweet onion, sliced
Chopped cilantro, about 2 tablespoons
2 limes
Coarse salt
Extra virgin oil, for drizzling

Cut avocados in half, working around the pit. Separate the 2 halves. Remove pit and scoop out avocado flesh with a spoon. Wedge avocados and pile in the center of a large platter. Seed and wedge tomatoes and arrange around the avocados. Spread sliced onion over platter. Sprinkle platter with cilantro. Squeeze the juice of 2 limes evenly over vegetables. Season with coarse salt. Drizzle platter with oil and serve.

Yield: 4 servings

Me Again

I've been contemplating doing away with my myspace pages. I never use them, not really, and it drives Zanderyn nuts that I have one (and I think he'd freak if he knew I had two!). I've already deactivated my Facebook page simply because I just don't have the time for it. Like a friend tends to say, Facebook is waaaaay too needy. LOL I concur. J

But anyway… I'm thinking I might start posting my book and CD reviews here so beware.

~The Crazy Reading Lady

Today’s Question Is…

Do I really have to care? I mean, seriously. Soo much drama, soo much crap. I just don't need this in my life. Heaven only knows, I've got enough crappy drama of my own. LOL

But, in my defense, I used to be really involved and really concerned about all my online friends and all their little disasters. I used to get really concerned and worry and all the rest. Now? Now, I just don't have the energy. Heck, I don't have the energy to run my own life the way I want to, let alone be involved with everyone else's lives the way I used to be.

Is it wrong to feel this way? Should I be more considerate, more caring? I know I should be allowed to step back once in awhile but I'm just not ever sure that I can. I think that I need to now, desperately.

Forgive me.

But, on a happier note, I got a new bookshelf.

Yes, it's true, I have a lot of books. More that I care to admit to most days. So, Zan bought me two new bookshelves – one for the living room beside my chair and one for the kitchen to replace the ancient one I've had since high school. All my cookbooks were starting to make it sag a bit. LOL Will post more boring pictures once I get that one up too. Zan had had enough once he was done with this one.

If you look closely at the bottom, you can see my hamster sleeping in his tube like the dork that he is. *shrugs* Oh well, he's just lucky he's so cute, I think. So, now that you're staring, see anything on my bookshelf that you like? LOL I think that when it comes time to put the other bookshelf together, I'm recruiting Blake to come help. Couldn't hurt any and I'm sure Zan would appreciate the help. Or lack of seeing as it's Blake I'm gonna recruit. LOL
